How to use the calculator
Pick a start date and an end date, then press Calculate. The start date is set to today when the page opens, so to count the days until an event you only need to choose the end date.
Two options change the count:
- Include the end date (+1 day) counts both the first and the last day. Use it for things like hotel nights versus days of a trip, or a leave period that runs from Monday to Friday inclusive.
- Also count business days only (Mon–Fri) adds a second figure that leaves out Saturdays and Sundays.
How the days are counted
By default the result is the number of midnights between the two dates, which is the usual meaning of "days between". From Monday to Tuesday is 1 day, and from a date to the same date is 0 days. Ticking the end date option adds one day, so the same date counts as 1 day.
The total is also shown in two other ways:
- Weeks and days: the total divided by 7, with the remainder as days.
- Years, months and days: full years first, then full months, then the days left over.
Worked example
From January 1, 2026 to December 25, 2026 there are 358 days. That is 51 weeks and 1 day, or 11 months and 24 days. With the end date included it becomes 359 days.
Good to know
- Leap years are handled automatically. A span that contains February 29 is one day longer. Years divisible by 4 are leap years, except century years that are not divisible by 400, so 2000 was a leap year and 1900 was not.
- Month ends. In the years, months and days view, a month counted from the 31st ends on the last day of a shorter month. January 31 to February 28, 2026 is shown as 1 month.
- Business days ignore holidays. Only Saturdays and Sundays are removed. Public holidays differ between countries and regions, so subtract any that apply to you yourself. The business day count uses the same range as the main count, so it includes the end date only when that option is ticked.
- End date before the start date. If the end date is earlier, the two dates are swapped and a note is shown. The number of days is the same either way.
- Time zones and daylight saving time do not affect the result, because only calendar dates are compared. Dates from year 1 to year 9999 are supported.
